Sakulrat Khansalee (Lek) is a 9th grader at the Khumpawapee School in Udon-Thani province. Lek recognizes that higher education will equip a person with knowledge, which will become a valuable tool for her to support herself and her family. As a result, she studies diligently and obtained a GPA as high as 3.85. Although she is still saddened by her father’s unexpected death, she tries to carry on with her life. Her father’s passing away plays a role in encouraging her to become even more hard-working, so that she can realize her dream of becoming a nurse. |

Lek has three siblings and her mother is the only financial supporter of the family. Despite her poor eyesight, she carries on working as a seamstress and often earns less than sufficient income to support the whole family. The possibility for Lek to continue her study is now dim, as her mother recently placed the land, the family’s last belongings left by her father, on mortgage to support all 3 children through school. Till these days, because of the financial constraints, Lek never dares dreaming of continuing her study. In fact, she even contemplated quitting school, so that she would be able to help put her brothers through school and ease the burden on her mother. |

Sometimes, when she saw her friends sharing some cheerful moments at school eating snacks, she had to go cry behind the closed door in the bathroom and would grumble to herself: “Daddy, why did you leave us so early? Don’t you know that life has been so hard for us?” However, whenever these setbacks hit her, she will think of mother’s words: “If you want to live a good life, you must study hard…because our family is not that well off.” These words would stop her from being caught up in her family’s unfortunate fate. They also help fuel and lift her spirits up so that she has a stronger will to overcome the obstacles and to create a better future for her mother and her family. |
