Patcharapol, Applicant for the scholarship for Upper Secondary Level, academic year 2024

Patcharapol,
Grade 10, Khon Kaen province.
Applicant for the scholarship
for Upper Secondary Level,
academic year 2024.

My name is Patcharapol Larwong. I am currently studying in Grade 10 at Baan Phai School, Khon Kaen Province. My family consists of three people: my father, mother and myself.
My father works as a menial worker in the village, doing odd jobs such as repairing televisions or bicycles, selling snack, and selling fish at the market. My family does not own any farmland for cultivation. We live in a small, narrow house with no facilities, surrounded by neighbors’ high zinc walls which also make our daily life difficult. This situation affects my father's ability to earn income. When my father doesn’t have work or my parents are unwell, we will not have any food at home because we don't have any crop to harvest for meals. Everything we need to buy or seek help from relatives.

After school each day, I have to practice sports at school for an upcoming competition. Sometimes, there is a break time for athletes to rest. When I return home from school with no sports practice, I do my homework. Then, I do various household chores such as washing dishes, sweeping the house and cooking. I have to take care of all the household chores to ensure my father doesn't feel exhausted after returning from work. Meanwhile, my mother has been suffering from liver disease and in the past two years, she has got kidney disease.

Patcharapol's home is dilapidated and has no entrance or exit.

As for my own education, I'm not particularly talented but I don't give up easily. I have to try harder than others to improve myself. My mother has to frequently go to the hospital for treatment, which costs a lot of money. This has led my father to pawn his motorcycle and so he cannot travel far for work. I know I can't contribute financially to my family's expenses. Currently, my father is unemployed, and even odd jobs in the village are scarce, leaving us with no income. I also seek help from my friend from another village and travel to and from school with him.

Patcharapil takes care of all the household chores instead of his sick mother,
so his father won't be exhausted after returning from work.

Some days, I have money for school and some days I don't. On days that I don't have money, I have to bring food from home to eat at school. In situations like this, I feel I have to push myself harder to focus on studying. My favorite subject is English, even though I'm not very good at it. I want to improve myself.

Patcharapol is an athlete with a dream of becoming a professional volleyball
player, and he also aspires to further his studies in sports science.

My favorite sport is volleyball because it brings me joy every time I touch the ball and play. My dream is to become a professional volleyball player and study sports science to become a teacher or coach in various athletic clubs. However, I lack funding for further education. If I receive a scholarship, it will significantly less my father's burden. It will cover my tuition fees until I finish my studies, and the remaining amount will be used for school expenses. I will dedicate myself to studying hard to continue my education at the university level. Of course, I will not stop improving myself.
