The Education for Development Foundation (EDF) together with Pepsi-Cola (Thailand) presents “Helping Hand” for the youth sustainable life skill
On 14 -15 November 2013, PepsiCo Services Asia Ltd with the Education for Development Foundation hosted Life Skill Development activities for the students of Nikom Sang Ton Eng 5, Rayong. The purpose of this project is to increase the career skills in students, particularly agricultural ones. Students have had a chance to learn about method and experience hand-on activities.

After the opening, volunteers from PepsiCo led all students to drive the energy with an activity -
“PEPSICO /PEPSICO /Grow with us/ Grow with us/ PEPSICO Grow with us!”.  Students and volunteers are divided into two groups; Build Catfish and Frog Tanks and Build a Plant Nursery.

Build Catfish and Frog Tanks

Regardless the blazing sun, the heat cannot decrease the determination of the volunteers or the students. Together they work side-by-side assembling the cement tanks which will be used for catfish and frog farming.

Build a Plant Nursery

Furthermore, students and the volunteers also prepare a nursery for flowering and ornamental planting. Students can use plants from this nursery to decorate the schools and garden, making the school more attractive and beautiful.

Making Bricks…Making Bucks

PepsiCo also offers a sum of funding for the school to initiate brick making class as part of extra-curriculum to increase income for the school. The money received from selling bricks will be put back as an investment sum of other activities in school to create sustainable development.

Turn the Trash Plastic to Crafted Pieces

In additional to all the agricultural activities, PepsiCo staff arranged a plastic-reuse activity, not only for fun but also bring about income. Teachers and students can learn how to turn plastic bottles into functional lamps that can be used in real life. They are safe, cheap, valuable, fun and environmental-friendly.

At the end of the two amazing days, the students of Nikom Sang Ton Eng 5, Rayong as well as volunteers from PepsiCo have cherished the exchanged knowledge and experience from one another. EDF and PepsiCo Services Asia Ltd  then are eagerly looking forward to the first follow-up in February 2014.

‘Helping Hand’ is believed to be one of the most successful projects which has a big impact and can be sustained by the students and teachers.

‘Helping Hand’ stretches out to enable students’ life skills, as well as the school to be sustainable.
