Fighting for my Future
My name is Jakkaphong Eum Kit Karn Dee, or March. I am 12 years old and currently in grade 6 at Chiang Sa Silpasatharn school of Yang Talad District in Kalasin province.

I am the only child of the family, however, my parents got divorced just after I was born. My father remarried and moved to live with his new family. I was abandoned to live with my grandparents from then on.

My grandfather suffers from depression while my grandmother, who is the only breadwinner in the family, occasionally visits a doctor for her high blood pressure.

March and his Grandmother, who only earn money to support the family

Each day, she goes out at the pond near the house to search for shells to sell at the market. The income is uncertain. If she cannot find enough shells, there will not be any money to buy food. Our makeshift house stands on land owned by generous people so we do not pay any rent.

The house where the relatives let them live,
the ground was not cement or tile.

To help my grandmother earn extra money, I fought as a kid boxer and earned 200 baht per fight, which I gave to them. I am very happy I can help although I have pain and bruises all over my body.

Sometimes, I get 10-20 baht daily school allowance but I rely on the free school lunch for food. I try my best to save money for use on school’s extra activities such as Boy Scout camp or study trip.

And deposit savings with his Teachers

I like physical education subject and sports. It helps strengthen the mind and body because I am the smallest student in the class. I play football with my friends at the temple and practice Thai boxing to prepare for any upcoming events in the hope that a sponsor would hire me to fight.

I did not choose to be borne but I choose to do the good and the right things. If I could get a scholarship, my grandmother would be very happy because she wanted me to complete my education and have a better life. I badly need new shoes because the one I am wearing is worn out.

March and his Family were delighted. That the Teacher nominated him
for EDF Scholarship

Becoming a sportsman is my dream, but realistically, I would like to complete secondary education and later finish a vocational course, find a job to help my grandparents.

I am determined to study hard and make the best use of scholarship fund, if I could get it. Thank you very much.
