Applying for EDF 1-Year Lower Secondary Scholarship
Academic Year 2026

“After my mother passed away, I knew that my family’s life would never be the same. I live with my grandparents in a house that does not belong to us, where everyone must work together just to get through each day. I study hard because I don’t want my family to worry about me. My dream is to continue my education, build a secure future, and become someone my grandparents can rely on as they grow older.”
My name is Chanita, and my nickname is Fang. I am currently studying in Grade 7 (lower secondary level) in Chaiyaphum Province. I live with my grandfather, grandmother, and other family members—eight people in total. The house we live in is not our own; my grandparents help take care of a tamarind farm for the owner, who kindly allows us to stay there without charging rent.

“Fang and her grandmother, showing the living conditions of the home shared by all eight members of their family.”

My grandparents work as daily laborers and farmers. My father works in construction in another province and is only able to return home occasionally. Due to his unstable income, he is rarely able to send financial support to the family. Sadly, my mother passed away in an accident on July 12, 2024, which has made our family’s situation even more difficult.

Because our family is poor, everyone must help and depend on one another. I do all the work I can to support my family, as much as a young girl is able to do. My grandparents are getting older every year, while I still have many lessons to learn and a long future ahead of me.

“Fang helps with every task she can as a young girl to ease her family’s burden.”

I try to save 20 baht each day. On days when my grandparents have little or no income, I use my savings to help my younger siblings go to school and to support my grandmother with household expenses. I stay away from anything harmful and focus on my studies so my family does not have to worry about me. I am determined to repay the kindness of everyone who has given me a chance to live a better life.

“Fang with her grandmother and younger siblings, whom her grandparents work tirelessly to support so that every child can continue their education.”

My greatest hope is to complete my education and build a good future so that I can take care of my family. I want to become a pillar of support for my household and look after my grandparents as they grow older. I wish for everyone in my family to be healthy and to stay together for a long time. I do not want my family to struggle for me and my siblings anymore. I will continue to save, to help, and to support one another with love and encouragement always.

“Fang’s hope is to complete her education and build a better future so she can care for and support her family. She is seeking the opportunity to continue her studies through secondary school.”
