Nuraini, Applying for the Scholarship for orphaned students affected by the Unrest in the 3 Southern Border Provinces, Academic Year 2025
Nuraini,
Grade 8, Narathiwat Province
Applicant for the Orphaned Children’s Scholarship Due
to the Unrest in the 3 Southern Border Provinces

My father passed away when I was only nine months old due to the ongoing unrest in the three southern border provinces of Thailand. After that, my mother left to remarry and started a new family. Since then, I have been raised by my grandmother and uncle.
As far back as I can remember, I have never tasted delicious food, worn beautiful clothes, or owned my own toys. If I wanted to play, I had to borrow toys from my neighbors. I have never been on a trip anywhere because life has always been difficult. My grandmother was the one who took care of me, while my uncle worked hard to support my education.

I try to help my uncle with household chores, such as sweeping the floor, washing dishes, and doing the laundry. After school, I work as a fruit vendor at the local evening market, earning 50 baht per day. I take great pride in being able to earn my own money because it has taught me the value of hard work. I have been saving up for my future. However, in December 2024, my grandmother passed away at the age of 88. Now, it’s just my uncle and me. I don’t know how I would manage if one day I were left all alone.

Education is My Only Opportunity
I go to school every day by a free shuttle service, as my school is 6 kilometers away from home. My daily allowance is 20 to 25 baht, depending on what my uncle can afford to give me.
My favorite subject is Thai language because my teacher is very kind and teaches us in a way that is easy to understand. I also love playing volleyball with my friends whenever I get the chance, but since I have to work after school, I don’t get to play as often as I would like.
I enjoy participating in various school activities, as they help me grow and allow me to learn new things.

My Dream
I want to become a Thai language teacher because I have been inspired by my own teacher. Being a teacher would allow me to help children become knowledgeable and good-hearted individuals. I dream of returning to teach at Ban Ai Sateer School, my former elementary school. I love all of my teachers because, without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Teachers are like second mothers to me.

Why I Am Applying for This Scholarship
I have never received a scholarship before. When I saw my guidance teacher announce this scholarship, and I realized I met the qualifications, I applied immediately.
If I am awarded this scholarship, I will study even harder. I would like to buy good-quality school supplies, beautiful coloring materials that I have always wanted, and a volleyball to play with my friends. More importantly, this scholarship would ease my uncle’s financial burden at home.

Above all, I would save the money to further my education at the university level, so that my dream of becoming a Thai language teacher can come true.

Thank you to everyone for giving me this opportunity.
