An Interview with Mr. Isao Masaoka

“I like to thank EDF for this honorable opportunity to serve as a consultant in the program. I also like to mention about the relation between Japan and other Asian countries especially Thailand where there has been an increase in cooperation in many aspects. Changing from provider role (Japan) and receiver role (Thailand), now the two countries has become equally partnership in term of supporting each together.”

EDF, Mr. Masaoka shares his attitude and experience about Thailand, the country where he currently lives and spends most of his time, he also has been invited as a guest speaker to share his view about Thailand for the Japanese who are interested in moving to Thailand.

Mr. Masaoka, (WAFCAT) secretary, the charity organization founded by Denzo Thailand limited, aim to help and support handicapped children both inside and outside the country. In Thailand WAFCAT has cooperated with EDF in providing the wheelchair unit, set up the training and maintenance program for the handicapped children in the Northeast region. The project also involves in building classrooms, toilets and the walkways for the handicapped children so they can share the same school session with other normal kids as well.

Mr. Masaoka has pointed out that the attitudes of a supporting society by the business sectors like the Denzo Thailand is increasing. Most of companies are now moving the business together with social responsibility or CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and some even include the CSR as one of the core business policy.

CSR represents the social responsibility by business organizations; the idea has been newly adopted by most developing countries as part of the trade terms. By focusing on building and developing the society along with the business goal, it will impact the corporate image and the welfare of the organization as part of overall community improvement and social development.

Mr. Masaoka hope that in the near future the business sector will focus more toward CSR, some Japanese firms now start to look into this area but it is still not widely known.

Besides main contributing and supporting the handicapped children in Thailand, Mr.Masaoka also serves as the honorable consultant for EDF in fund raising and developing of many special projects. His voluntary contribution for EDF has started with the handicapped project where he feels closely connected to EDF and especially when he has discussed with Mr.Terumasa Akio, EDF vice president, about the goal and philosophy in developing society and education of the Thai children.
