Health Awareness Project
Children who suffer from malnutrition and other illnesses are unable to learn effectively or enjoy a high standard of living.  According to a 2009 survey completed by the Office of Basic Education Commission almost 400,000 children in Thailand suffer from malnutrition.  In remote rural areas where a number of other health issues must be contended with, the issue is most critical.  Access to medical services in the Northeast region has been rated the lowest in the nation.

EDF is helping by:   Allocating funds and holding workshops led by qualified health professionals to teach student leaders about current health and hygiene practices and about common diseases.  This knowledge and training empowers these individuals to educate their peers and promote healthy living.   The result is a more health-aware and independent community.

“Student project leaders can now make practical use of
what they’ve learned while running the project.
This definitely resulted in positive improvements in areas of,
for example, health, computer skills, creativity, self-confidence
as well as solidarity and cooperation among students,
teachers and community members.”
