| |
| From the huge earthquake and tsunami devastation in the northeastern region of Japan on March 11th, 2011, EDF was reported by our affiliated office in Tokyo, EDF-Japan that more than 300 EDF donors also resided in the affected Ibaraki, Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures. Therefore, in support of the international emergency relief efforts, EDF launched “Japanese Tsunami 2011 Relief Campaign” during March 14th-31st, 2011. |

The total amount of 484,208 Baht were donated by Thai, foreign and even Japanese people residing in Thailand through this campaign and, after consultation with EDF-Japan, we decided to hand all donations collected to Rikuzen Takata Daiichi Secondary School located in the most devastated area of Iwate Prefecture. Three students of the school passed away and almost 30% of student’s families became homeless and now evacuating to stay in the school’s temporary building.
Due to the difficulties in communication and transportation in the affected areas, finally, on April 26th 2011, Mr. Terumasa Akio, EDF-Japan President (on the left side of the photo), visited Rikuzen Takata Daiichi Secondary school to hand the 484,208 Baht (1,346,144 yen) donation to school vice principal to help support school reconstruction.
Rikuzen Takata Daiichi Secondary school initiated the “Used Postcard Campaign” to raise scholarship funds for less fortunate children in Thailand since 1997. Every year, Rikuzen Takata Daiichi’s students help collect the used postcard in their communities and all incomes from selling used postcard will be donated through EDF Scholarship Program. To date, 67 scholarship students in rural Thailand have been supported through Rikuzen Takata Daiichi’s campaign. |
