Chanicha, 13, Grade6, Nakorn Phanom province
EDF scholarship candidate (Continue onto Grade7-9) School Year 2019,
Sawasdee Kha (Greetings in Thai for girls), my name is Chanicha. My parents have 2 kids and I am the eldest. I am studinging in grade 6 in Nakorn Phanom province. My family is very poor, so I have to work part-time to feed the cattles in the rice field on the weekends for the 100 baht daily wage for our family expenses. I am not tired in working, but I feel sympathy for my mother to work so hard alone.

My father passed away when I was only 1 month old. I never know the truth that he passed away until I grow up. In the past, I frequently asked my mother where was him, and she said that he was working in another province. When I knew that he already passed away, I felt very sad and depressed. My mother promised that she will never tell me a lie anymore.

Chanicha, 13, is now living under the poverty line with her single mother
and anothe little sibling in an almost ruined house located in the far reached area
of the village.
We live from hand to mouth. Many times, we do not have anything to eat. My mother grows rice and also vegetables for selling in the morning market. If she could earn income from selling vegetables, I will get 10 baht to go to school which I always save 5 baht in my piggy bank. During lunch break at school, my friends have delicious sweet to eat, but I do not have enough money to buy some. I just watch them eating.

I wish to study onto university level and graduate bachelor's degree, but my mother told me to finish only grade 6 because she does not have enough money for my schooling. I try to save the money by myself. I once give up my fate, but I will never give up again.

Chanicha always helps her mother grow and collect vegetables for selling in the market
to earn extra income for a living

I wish to have school euipment and stationeries like other of my friends. Therefore, I would like to get a scholarship for buying necessary school equipment. I promise to spend the fund wisely, if I get a scholarship.

In the future, I dream to be a Chinese language teacher so that I can communicate well with the foreigner. I will study hard, be diligent and be a good girl. I will never forget the kindness of kind people who will sponsor me.

In the weekends, Chanicha does not have a chance to play with friends like other children because she has to work part-time to feed the cattle in the rice field in exchange for a daily wage of 100 baht to help lessen the financial burden of the falily
